LONDON, 24 March 2022 — Palo Alto Networks (NASDAQ: PANW), the global cybersecurity leader, has today signed the Armed Forces Covenant at an event attended by Lieutenant General Jim Hockenhull KBE, Chief of Defence Intelligence, Ministry of Defence. Palo Alto Networks is proud to support the defence community — which includes veterans, serving personnel and reservists — and is committed to ensuring that they are given equal opportunities to succeed in their careers after their military service.

Palo Alto Networks recognises the value that the armed forces community brings through the technical and leadership skills that reservists and veterans possess. The company is committed to providing armed forces personnel with opportunities to share their wealth of experience and skills to help protect our customers' digital way of life.

The Armed Forces Covenant is a voluntary pledge that exists to ensure that those who serve in the Armed Forces, veterans and their families, have access to the same career opportunities as any other citizen, and that special consideration is given in some circumstances. Palo Alto Networks is proud to uphold these principles.

Palo Alto Networks has always welcomed people from the Armed Forces, having itself been co-founded by a military veteran. The leadership, adaptability, problem-solving ability, teamwork and commitment that veterans possess are key skills that are highly valued in the field of cybersecurity. With the cybersecurity sector continuing to face a major skills gap, Palo Alto Networks hopes that furthering its work with those who have served in the Armed Forces will help to contribute to tackling this problem whilst supporting veterans to further their careers.

Lieutenant General Jim Hockenhull KBE said, “I am delighted that Palo Alto Networks has signed the Armed Forces Covenant and furthered its commitment to current and former Armed Forces personnel and their families. I am pleased to see Palo Alto Networks recognise the value that former Armed Forces personnel can contribute to the sector, and look forward to deepening our partnership to strengthen our defence and national security.”

Simon Turner, regional vice president for Western Europe at Palo Alto Networks, said, “It gives me great pleasure to sign the Armed Forces Covenant, and to be part of an initiative that stands by and supports veterans. As we work with governments across the world, the skillset and perspective brought by those with military experience is incredibly valuable. Our shared vision of a world where each day is safer and more secure than the one before leads us naturally to supporting veterans and their families, and giving them the opportunity to continue to play a role in guaranteeing our safety and security in the digital realm.”

As part of the pledge, Palo Alto Networks has committed to ensuring that in its business dealings it will:

  • Create more and broader pathways into cybersecurity through our education programmes and strategic partnerships.
  • Endeavour to utilise the Palo Alto Networks Cyber Academy Programme amongst the armed forces community, offering free hands-on cybersecurity training to veterans.
  • Seek to support our employees who choose to be members of the Reserve forces, including by accommodating their training and deployment where possible.
  • Strive to support not-for-profit organisations that are training veterans and current service personnel by offering our cybersecurity training material.
